In a book I have (that I consider rather old but that still contains some good info),

"Foods That Heal", by Maureen Shalaman, my edition: 1994, page 193,

she describes a self test method from Dr. Denis Burkitt, supposedly an authority on colon and waste matter, for determining whether or not the diet contains enough fiber.

About stool quality:

Quote:

Floaters are stools containing enough fiber to make them float. Sinkers are heavy and hard…..

Anyone ever heard of this as a determining factor as to if you are getting enough fiber or not?

Not the most pleasant of topics I know (floaters vs. sinkers), but if it's going to be asked, this is the place to do it.

I've never heard of that, but I have seen this before: Check if your feces are healthy .

The floater/sinker question does come up, with the sinker being more points, which is not good according to the results chart.

BTW: I have NO IDEA how accurate this little "quiz" is. I would like to know who the heck weighs theirs. OK, maybe I'd rather not know.

Another IBS book I have says, perfectly round, the diameter of a quarter.

Sure -- I have always checked to make sure mine float. (They don't now, and seldom ever have!)

This is an OLD adage -- obviously our own KK is too young, eh? (Bet THAT's something she doesn't hear very often!)

You must be remembering the fanatical me calculating fat percentages awhile back, right? Yeah, this is exactly like something I would do.

Damn my reputation!

the whole thing sounds so gross. IT IS right up there with doing those awful stood tests(samples for the drs). another necessary evil.

You're RIGHT, I'm just to young to know these things!
(Can I go back to my playpen now?)

It doesn't come up in many normal conversations, at least not in my circles.

Had to laugh at Mags site. It's a riot. Did you look at it? ...it even goes into weight and color...the color I'd argue with....especially if you're a big cocoa consumer!!!

Do we need to run a "foaters and sinkers" poll? LOL

Was this in the Canine IBS Guidebook? Sheesh........don't they know we humans are not perfect, certainly not in that respect.

And how'd they get to be experts on this I wonder? That sure wouldn't want to be MY field of expertise !!!!
