I was just curious if there are any foods that people find particularly helpful for a good poop! I know we need IF, but I was wondering if there is a food that you C folks turn to to help increase the chances.

I'll start. So far, knock on wood, I've had a BM the morning after having cooked peas (about 2/3 cup) for dinner the night before. I've only just noticed this the last 3 times I've tried it, so it may be a coincidence. But, if I haven't gone for days, I will now turn to my peas in hopes of increasing the chances! Also, Casey's sweet and sour has helped sometimes.

Okay, any one else have a food(s), preferably safe...not like milk or sorbitol sweetener...that you turn to for increasing the likihood of having a BMs?

Well, I haven't noticed a specific food...but getting enough safe food and magnesium malate before bed are biggies for me!

Hmm, I can tell you foods that keep me from going...but not ones that help me go. Beth...you just gave me something import. to think about...I owe you one *hugs*

GREAT POST...can't wait to hear more from folks!

Peas...haven't had those in a while...may be something to consider

Not to change the subject of the post, but just curious! And how much magnesium malate do you take at night? I didn't think this type of magnesium would help with BMs.

There are certain IF foods that if I take them OUT of my diet, my poops get difficult (straining, hard, small). None of them are miracle foods in that they'll MAKE me have a BM, but if I stop eating ALL of them on a regular basis (at least two of these a day), I'm obviously not getting enough IF and I start to have problems.

Those foods are:

Corn
Legumes - lentils, beans, etc.
Grapes
Apple with the skin on, which is a new one for me

I still think that if you're looking for a food or 2 that will make you "go", you're approaching it all wrong. Aim to get more IF overall, ALL the time, every single day. And I still think you should make it IF from fruit/veg sources, which seem to me to have more water to them than grain sources. But that's just me.

I wonder if adding seaweed to other foods would have the same effect? new

I swear, EVERY time I make Heather's Lemon Asparagus pasta, I have nice easy BMs shortly after. For whatever reason, the pureed asparagus sauce really gets me moving! I call it my "Makes me go pasta". And with all the leftovers, it makes me regular for a week!
