What am I doing wrong??

I've had IBS for over 10 years. I used to be ok and be able to eat more than I can now but my body has changed. I just had a baby 4mos ago and now it's changed again. I can't tolerate any milk products much less just about any foods. I received Heather's bood, cookbook as well as the teas, tummy fiber and peppermint pills about 3 weeks ago. I was gungho about this new way of life and found that the book explains a lot about me and what I'm/I've been through. Throughout my life I've become more of a home body due to my issues. It's embarrassing to go out and not be able to eat anything or start to have anxiety an need to come home. My anxiety is from post tramatic stress but is aggrevated by my stomach problems also. I suffer from both types of IBS it's a constant change from day to day. With such a sensitive stomach I can't eat half of what's in the cookbook and it's getting harder and harder to figure out what doesn't bother me. I need protein and rice and pasta just don't cut it. I add chicken or shrimp or something like that but it's getting old. Can anyone tell me what I'm going wrong? I have cramping and pains in my stomach daily and feel the urge to run to the bathroom but most of the time nothing happens. I have a followup next week with my gastro doctor but I'm not sure there's anything else he can do for me. I just want my old body back where I could eat sour cream, ice cream and cheese (sorry guys alternative cheese products just don't work they are aweful!). Just thought I'd get an outside opinion on something I may be missing.

Can you post a typical day's meals so we can make suggestions.

Sure...Breakfast is usually rice chex cereal with banana & lactaid milk or instant oat meal. This is the only meal I can eat and 99% of the time I'm ok. Lunch: Some kind of protein (chicken, turkey, fish) as a sandwich (cucumber, pealed and deseeded, dijon mustard or plain, sometimes small amount of mayo but I'm starting to stop that and sometimes avocado). Or pasta with protein. This is getting old the same ol' things. Dinner: Protein again and something on the side (instant potatoes using the lactaid milk and can't believe it's not butter, corn, pasta with rice parmasan cheese, wite rice, squash or sweet potatoe or regular potatoe). Snacks: carmel corn rice cakes, graham crackers, baked chips, zone power bars but I realized that I can't tolerate the chocolate peanut butter anymore, apple sauce, toast with peanut butter and suger free apricot jam. Tea: peppermint and Fennel on a daily basis
This is pretty much what I've been eating and still having problems. I feel like I'm eating noting and racking my brain just to think of what to cook tonight! I'm really frustrated.

hi! Sorry you're feeling so bad! We've all been there. Posting your diet was helpful, and I do have a few suggestions. As for lactaid milk---that really is NOT recommended. It still has milk proteins, just no lactose. Try rice milk or soy milk--that should really help. I also saw you had sugar free jam. Sugar free items with artificial sweeteners are triggers! Stay away from those. Zone bars probably are hard on your belly, so I'd be very careful. And, one more thing. I Can't believe it's not butter has milk proteins, and a sensitive stomach can really be aggrevated by it. Make sure to stick to super safe soluble fibers, like french bread and crackers for awhile. Potatoes are great, but avoid ICBINB. Hang in there! Getting used to the diet is tough, but you'll get into the swing soon! **also, post on the other boards about this and you'll get more people answering. **

Thanks for your reply. May I ask what kind of butter is safe? The lactaid milk I don't have issues with usually but I've really tried the other "milks" and soy products and they are awful! My body was somewhat normal before I got pregnant and while pregnant the same, I could eat anything now it's crazy again!

Hmm could you try cutting out the lactaid milk and seeing if things settle down. Even if it doesn't bother you right away it can cause problems hours or even days later. If you have it each day then your body is also not getting a chance to recover from it.
Try sticking to a all soluble fibre diet for a few days. It sold help settle things down.

Ok..just like others have said..I cant believe that you are using some of the things that are NOT RECOMMENDED..If you did the research and read on the website what to use and what not to use you would know that i cant believe its not butter just means..its not butter..its margarine or oils..the only butter i hear is safe and i use is smart balance LIGHT. it is non dairy and seems to be safe..also yea sugar free means ARTIFICAL SWEETENERS which is what we want to stay away from..just use any seedless jelly..sugar is not a trigger..as for milk..if you read it says even if its lactose free its not non dairy free..use silk soy milk or rice milk..its not as nasty as you make it sound..at this point in life you cant be to picky..its taste or happiness..i knows its boring..and i am joked about what and how i eat on a daily basis..but people understand that its not worth it..and i would like to live normal like them..

Hi Canchze,
I understand how you feel where substitute milk products are concerned. I tried countless soy, almond, etc. products and always felt they tasted like chalk. I wasted alot of money in trial and error.
I finally found one that I like and I stick with it. It is Rice Dream and you can get it vanilla, organic, etc. I buy the vanilla and to me it tastes like skim milk. It doesn't taste like chalk as many of the soy products do.
It does have some fat in it, but it doesn't seem to bother me at all. It is not in the refrigerated section of the supermarket, but on the center isle. I refrigerate it as soon as I get it home. I am going to see how it tastes in hot chocolate. I haven't tried that yet.
I hope this helps some and I hope you find your way to feeling better.
Lynn

I'm new here, so let me know if I'm doing anything wrong. I noticed in your lists of food, that corn is not good, nor is anything chocolate, as in a hard form of chocolate. Fruits and vegies don't work for me, it works opposite in the worse way, even only 8 oz of fruit juice. I also cannot eat potatoes, except fried (I've always wondered why this is). I use olive oil with whatever I'm making. Pasta does work for me and so does cheese. I bake my cookies with fine wheat flour, but only have sandwiches with hamburger buns not bread, and I'm okay.
What is your stress/anxiety level? This 'might' have something to do with your foods...I know it does with mine.
The only vegie I can eat from store is beans without any problems, but everything in very small amounts. I'm unable to eat gravy even if I use wheat flour, or corn starch, have even tried the herb Arrowroot.
Don't know if this is any help to you...
