So I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone had any advice. My fiancee who was diagnosed with IBS three years ago has been going through a very difficult time lately. He started having severe stomach pains about six months ago we've had test after test done on him and everything comes back normal. They keep thinking it may be his appendix but of course the tests keep coming back negative. They've had him on Percocet for the pain which of course does nothing for the pain. We've been to see his G.I. specialist, and she did an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy both of which came back negative for anything. After the colonoscopy was done since everything came back negative she suggested he needed to exercise to lose weight, which he can't do he's in so much pain constantly he can barely make it for the weekly trip to the grocery store. She also recomended he take Dicetel which he had been taking for about 3 months before we got to see her and that hasn't done much for him, as well as fiber supplementation which he has been on for the last 3 years since being diagnosed. She also recommended something called Elavil which I believe is an anti-depresant. He has also started following the Eating for IBS diet. He started that about a month ago and the IBS symptoms he had before have improved significantly but the pain just keeps getting worse.

I am at such a loss on what to do for him. The medical community has all but given up on him becuase they have given him the diagnosis pain predominant IBS. Everyone says they have no idea what is causing his pain but they are unwilling to find out. They just keep telling us they have no test to prove to us the pain is due to the IBS but we just have to believe them when they say that's what it's from. But the symptoms don't get better with bowel movements and it just doesn't seem to fit for me. Every test he has gotten has come back clear which has also made people not only in the medical community but at his work say that his pain is not as bad as he said it is (even though a few days ago he collapsed he was in so much pain) and that there's nothing wrong with him.

I am at such a loss on what to do, I hope there's someone out there who has had a similar situation that can give some advice on what can help with his pain. His pain is mostly centered around the lower right abdomen, it is a dull achy pain that gets sharp and stabbing at some times. The pain radiates through his whole abdomen but is the worst in the lower right. He has not only been doing the Eating for IBS diet, but the hypnosis for IBS as well and as I said it helped with the bowel movements they have become more regular and he's not panicking if he has to go anywhere but the pain has gotten so much worse. It is most definetly not his appendix, that has been checked several times...

So please if there's anyone out there who can help or who has found something to help with this type of pain it would be much appreciated. I must say I am appaled at how the medical community has treated him all because he has the diagnosis IBS. His work won't even approve him for ltd because they say IBS is not a disability and there's no reason why he can't work, but he's in so much pain he can barely stand somedays. I can't tell you how much we've been through and how terrible it has been. The situation feels hopeless and I'm hoping someone has found something to help.

Thank you so much if there is anyone to help, I'm sorry this has been so long winded...

Is your bf IBSC or D?
I'm d and i get pain in the same spot but not too severe. I think it might be gas trapped. passing gas seems to help.
I also take advil for the pain sometimes. I was on dicetel when i first was diagnosed it really helped me.

Is his job really stressful? They don't sound supportive. maybe a leave of absence would help. Looking for a better job too.
Where in Canada are you? I'm in Zurich, Close to Lake Huron.

No it's definetly not gas trapped he doesn't get any relief from passing gas, bowel movements etc. And I'm not sure what the difference is between IBSc or d is... All I know is they could never figure out what was causing his symptoms so they just told him he had IBS.

No they have not been supportive in the least. And a leave of abscense is out of the question they won't even believe somethings wrong with him. And his GI has been the worst Dr I have ever encountered. I hope he can get a new specialist at some point but I know this will take a really long time and I doubt they will be much more helpful..

We're in Calgary AB... I must say I have little to no faith in our medical system anymore. Also he's lucky if he can walk from our bedroom to the couch somedays he's in so much pain. So any sort of movement will make it worse.

This doesn't sound like much fun. Have you guys tried a natural healer? Some of them are a little coukoo but it might be another route to go. Our bodys get bombarded with so my stuff and stress is a powerful enemy.
It's hard when your doc isn't helping and I encourage you guys to push for a new one. Here in ontario we have alot of choices. It might take a while but we are lucky. At least we don't have to pay for our docters appt.

d or c means diareaha or constipation He could have both.
I'd encourage him to try alternative medicine for now. When your body is so screwed up more drugs are not the option. (in my opinion)I like to go as natural and organic as possible. Chiropractic may help also. If your spine isn't in alignment then the nerves running through it won't function as well.

Good luck I hope something I said will help and I hope you can find the help you're looking for
