Can black pepper be a trigger?

I have tons of trigger... dairy, wheat, fat, meat, artificial sweeteners... the list is seemingly endless... I'm sticking to this diet pretty ridgedly but I'm still poorly in the evenings! Could it be black pepper? I tend to use it quite a bit for flavour instead of salt!

I read a book that listed the most aggravating spices for IBS and pepper was one of the 6 or so listed. I avoid it just to be safe.

Beth is quite right, it is a very strong stomach irritant.
White pepper isn't nearly as bad if you want a peppery taste

I'm not sure. I tend to avoid it because it leads to a bad aftertaste in my mouth. I also think my aversion comes from the fact that it was in so many foods I used to eat that gave me attacks.

Pepper can really irritate my tummy & throat. Perhaps eliminate for a few days to see if the irritation disappears?

I don't even bother using pepper because it irritates me.

Kate, IBS-D.
