I've been having moderate to severe gas and bloating. I don't know if it's the prunes, the magnesium, or PMS?!?! Do they generally cause gas??

Prunes cause gas for me.....big time! Also, too much magnesium can cause "D"

Uh oh... Are yours delayed reaction? I don't get gas right away but later when I eat again. What about prune juice? How are the effects different?

Usually it's not right after I eat but later on. I would think prune juice would do the same thing. I always considered prunes to be a laxative.....I remember my mother telling me if I was "C" to eat prunes. I stay away from them now, though, because I tend to be "D".

Prunes give me cramps and gas. There's a lot of fiber in them so that's where the gas comes from. Try taking beano with them to cut the gas.

Prunes are way to harsh for me. Try citrucel instead; it won't make you toot and it really gets things going.

Personally, with IBS- D I wouldn't touch purnes or prune juice with a 10- foot pole. It's very harsh on the GI system. In the same breath, I feed it to my daughter who is 18 months and very prone to constipation. I would avoid it if I were you. It could cause more harm than good. Keep up with your SFS and the soluble fibre. It will all work out in the end. ANd much more safely.
