I bought a new brand of Probiotics yesterday (the one I was taking was ghastly expensive) Called Jarro-Dophilus +FOS. The bottle proclaims High Potentcy 6 species survives stomach acid and colonizes the intestines. FOS are natural carbohydrates that enhace replication of benificial bacteria. Should I be worried about taking it. Somehow the idea of microorganisms colonizing my intestines freak me out.

I was using that brand & didn't have any problems with gas (at least not more than I ususally do!). I'm currently taking PB8 since it was recommended by someone here on the boards & the vitamin store told me it was more potent. The only problem I had with the Jarros was that it had to be refrigerated so I couldn't keep it in my bag. As a result, I kept forgetting to take it.
I still don't know if the probiotics even do anything for me but I guess they can't hurt.
good luck with them.

Re microorganisms colonizing your intenstines...that's what probiotics do!!! You need the good bacteria down there and probtiotics supply more. I guess the FOS is a prebiotic like Acacia is.

Not sure on the gas, but any change can cause more symptoms for a little while so it could be that.

PB 8 makes a variety of versions (I think 3). Do you know if the bottle says it has FOS in it? Is is the Vegetarian version? I know SweetD recommended this brand but she is on her honeymoon, so can't ask her which version to take.

Can anyone else recommend a probiotic that has helped and not increase the gas or bloat?

I currently take Jarro EPS but still have major gas.
