Confused-- Is herbal tea a diuretic?

I read that tea is a diuretic. I've been drinking herbal teas for the past two weeks like it's going out of style. I mean, I probably drink atleast 6 cups of tea (peppermint or variety herbal teas). I thought this was supposed to be good for you, but now I'm wondering if it could be contributing to my ongoing C.

Is it better to stick with water?

Your herbal teas should be fine. Keep up with them. Most regular tea has caffeine which I think (don't quote me on it) is a diuretic. That's probably where that's coming from. Double check to make sure your herbal teas are caffeine free or decaffeinated and you should be just fine.

Yeah, they're all decaf. I made sure of that. Have given up caffeine, as Heather suggested.

Was hoping for a reason that I've become so "backed up" again. Guess the tea isn't the culprit. My body's just stubborn!

yes- caffeine is the diuretic in tea.. but.. be careful- some herbal components are also diuretics.. I actually made a diuretic tea for a friend who was supposed to be on perscription diuretics and didn't like the side effects with her docs help (I love docs willing to use alternative treatment methods).

Oh, now that's kind of confusing. Hmmm, I know that Heather's peppermint tea's ok & that fennel tea's ok. But at work, I have a box of assorted herbal teas (Bigelow). Those teas have lots of different herbs mixed in with each bag. In looking at the ingredients, I see that many of them have, among other things, hibiscus flowers and/or rose hips. Maybe I better simplify the herbal teas for work the next time I'm replenishing my supply.

I drink Bigelow's Chamomile and Sweet Dreams teas. They do not give me a diuretic affect.

no- the herbal diuretics aren't standard ingredients in teas.. they are just things you CAN get- like fennel isn't standard in tea...

good luck
