New DVD for IBS has been released

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to make you aware of a new DVD that Gaiam has released. They apparently have teamed up with the Mayo Clinic to produce a series of DVDs focused on chronic conditions. IBS is one of them. Here's how they describe it:

"Each DVD features integrated health action plans. The DVD program beings with an "informative 30-minute conversation with Mayo Clinic Specialists.

Next, experienced Mayo Clinic Dietitians teach you what to eat and what to avoid with respect to your condition.

Finally, yoga expert Rodney Yee guides you through condition-specific relaxation poses and meditation exercises designed to help relive tension and enhance circulation.

Each DVD includes a 52-page stress management workbook. Total running time 90 minutes."

I have not bought or used this DVD yet so I cannot comment on it's contents or it's effectiveness - in fact as we have all learned over the years, many doctors, dietitians, etc, who do not have IBS give advice on how to deal with IBS and it is often contradictory to what you know is safe for you. I think that having tools to help manage IBS symptoms is important, but I also think that not every tool is right for everybody.

Even though we all "have" IBS we are all individuals and what works for me or Heather or you might be very different. I know how powerful and healing yoga has been for me. I also know that I cannot use peppermint capsules. Peppermint tea, yes - I love it, but the capsules not so much. It's like that with DVDs or any other advice you get. Try it for yourself and see what works for you!

I guess what I'm saying is trust your instincts and intuition. If you get this or any other DVD and you totally dig it, then great. If not, then keep exploring until you find what works for you. Ultimately, we all have to be proactive in our healing. Nobody knows better than you do how something "feels" in your body. Listen to the wisdom that's already inside of you.

If you do get the DVD and have any feedback, please let us know. I am going to order it just so I can check it out, I will let you know what I think.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and peaceful 2008.

Peace,

KK
